Psychosocial Support Spaces
Creation of 2 Psychosocial Support Spaces, 1 in Goma and 1 in Nyiragongo to welcome girls surviving GBV
Objective:
Provide safe spaces for listening, guidance, and follow-up
Results Achieved:
- 2 Psychosocial Support Spaces, 1 in Goma city and 1 in Nyiragongo territory are being set up
- A team of social mentors is trained in psychosocial support and assists the project beneficiary girls
Challenges Faced
- Persistent insecurity limiting mobility and access to resources at the right time
- Cultural taboos on menstruation in some schools
Lessons Learned
- Awareness among local leaders strengthens community acceptance
- Establishing fixed spaces creates trust among beneficiaries
- School-community integration is essential for sustainability
Recommendations
- Extend the same activities to other vulnerable schools and unidentified socio-cultural structures (churches, etc.)
- Continue ongoing training of teachers on GBV in schools
- Increase visibility through distribution of Lacoste shirts, hats, and other essentials
